The central England town of Leicester is the heart of this interesting county. Historic market towns, stately homes, unique shops are neighbours with the award-winning National Space Centre, the roman ruins in Castle Park and the Expressionist artwork at the New Walk Museum. The Grand Union Canal with its ten locks makes a pretty place to walk, or scramble up the volcanic formations in Charnwood Forest. You certainly will not go hungry in Leicestershire with pork pies and stilton cheese from Melton Mowbray, along with Red Leicester cheese and the local Medley pie.
