Berkshire proudly boasts that it is one of the oldest counties in England and probably goes back even earlier than the recorded date of 846AD. Nicknamed the “Royal County”, its most famous landmark is Windsor Castle.Berkshire now includes Ascot, famous for its racecourse. Interesting places include the Ostrich Pub at Colnbrook where King John stayed prior to signing the Magna Carta in 1215.
