Winter Weather Dumps Record Snow on Global Warming Summit!

December 18th, 2009 by Gill

You can always count on children and animals to let you down at that crucial moment, but even the weather had the last word in Copenhagen yesterday!

If you have been following the debate of Al Gore versus Global Warming Sceptics you will know that world leaders are currently in Copenhagen discussing a solution to global warming. With new controversy over scientific ‘massaging’ of research figures, casting doubt on how much, if any, climate change is affecting the world, a blizzard dumped 10cm (4 inches) of snow on the Danish capital overnight! It must be most distracting to be discussing global warming and melting icecaps while big white snow flakes flutter past the window.

Generally Denmark has a maritime climate with milder winters than most of its Scandinavian neighbours. It has not had a white Christmas for the last 14 years, and only had 7 white Christmases in the whole of the last century. This year, however, snow is widely predicted. Officially a white Christmas in Denmark is defined by 90% of the country being covered by at least 2cm of snow on the afternoon of December 24th. So check the progress over the next days on our Copenhagen webcam. Other great webcams views in this Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale country include the Frederiksborg Castle webcam on the (possibly frozen) lake and live views of snowy roofs and roads in Bornholm.

  1. [...] I’m still smiling over the sudden lack of interest in global warming theories since the Copenhagen summit — see our earlier blog. [...]
