If you have not witnessed a Space Shuttle launch live from the Kennedy Space Centre, then there are a few opportunities this month to watch a launch through the live webcam at Cape Canaveral. Space Shuttle Endeavour’s countdown to launch goes on inside the Firing Room at NASA’s Kennedy Space Centre which is located on Florida’s Atlantic coast. The next launch is scheduled for Feb 7th 2010 at 4.39am EST. The good news is that for webcam viewers in the UK, this is 9.39am – a much more civilized time. The sky will still be dark in Florida so the sight should be quite amazing. Endeavour is expected to return and land on Feb 19th at 11.14 pm EST, having delivered the final connecting node and a robotic control station known as Cupola to the International Space Station. How futuristic is that?
If you miss that, mark the next date, Feb 9th, on your PDA when the United Launch Alliance Atlas V is scheduled to launch between 10.30 and 11.30am EST on the first Space Weather Research Network mission in the LWS (Living with a Star) NASA Program. It’s all systems go at Cape Canaveral!
With 15 official webcams focused on various sites around Kennedy Space Center, you can see preparations live, check the countdown clock, get a great weather satellite view and enjoy lots of other technical toys. So, “Take us to warp speed, Mr Scottie!”
