If you daydream of laying on a sun-hit beach and staring at an emerald sea, look no further than this Isla Mujeres webcam!
Isla Mujeres (which means “island of women”) is a municipality in Quintana Roo, Mexico. It got its name when the Spanish arrived in the 16th century and saw many pictures of the Mayan goddess of childbirth, Ix Chel. Maya women would make a pilgrimage to the island to ensure a fruitful marriage.
Today, Isla Mujeres is a popular tourist destination, with some people visiting the island for just a day, while others take advantage of the hotels on the island. The island is known for its beach called the Playa Norte and offering tourists the ability to swim with dolphins.
The island is only 4.3 miles long and 2,100 feet wide. Just over 16,000 residents live on the island. With the island being so small, residents get around the island on taxis, scooters, and golf carts!
