New Formula One Track “Circuit of the Americas” Gets a Webcam

January 27th, 2012 by Mark

In Travis County, Texas, a new 3.4-mile motor racing circuit is being built, called the Circuit of the Americas. It is to host the Formula One United States Grand Prix on November 18, 2012, which will be the first United States Grand Prix in the F1 calendar since Indianapolis in 2007. There are also plans for it to host races for MotoGP and V8 Supercars.

A couple of residents from Elroy, a small community near the track, are enthusiastic about the new F1 circuit, and therefore recently decided to set up a webcam to show its construction. They have called the webcam the Speed City Cam. It sits on top of a 40 foot tower, and pans to show several different sections of the track every few seconds.

In a few months time, this land will be teeming with F1 cars!

The new circuit was first proposed in 2010, and will be the first circuit in the US purposely built for F1. With F1 having stiff competition in the US from the likes of NASCAR, it is hoped that the webcam will get other Americans interested in F1. The webcam has already had over 5000 views since it launched a few weeks ago.

You can check out the webcam here.
