Catch a Glimpse of Sturgeons on Webcam

A new webcam has been installed at Horn Point Laboratory at the University of Maryland, allowing anyone to watch prehistoric-looking Atlantic sturgeon.

They have their look thanks to bony plates on their backs, known as scutes. The look isn’t entirely deceptive, as it is thought that sturgeon were around at the same time as the dinosaurs.

One of the sturgeon passes the webcam.

The webcam has already proved popular, with Horn Point Laboratory’s IT coordinator, noting that the webcam has been viewed by people all over the world.

It is thought to be popular because the it provides one of the few ways that members of the general public can catch a glimpse of these rare fish. The probability of seeing a sturgeon in the wild is very low.

You can check out the sturgeon webcam here.
