This Canadian province is in the eastern part of Canada. The island of Newfoundland is off the eastern coast whilst Labrador is on the mainland. 94% of the province’s half a million population reside on the island of Newfoundland and they have their own local dialect similar to the English, Irish and French languages. The capital city of St Johns has temperatures below freezing in January rising to 20C (68F) in July. The curiously named town of Dildo (!) is on Trinity Bay and the local traditional meal is ‘Jigg’s Dinner’: salt beef, vegetables and pease pudding.
