The Maldives is a group of 1199 coral islands far from land in the Indian Ocean. It is a popular destination for relaxing beach holidays and offers great snorkeling and diving (see our Meemu atoll webcam). It is the smallest Asian country, in terms of population. It is also the flattest. The high point of the islands is the Addu Atoll at just 2.4metres (7 feet 9 inches) above sea level.
